Not Just another ordinary Friday Night
Fun, food, fashion, fearless creativity, and a fabulous night is what you can expect on Friday, October 21st from 6-9 p.m. at JM’s Thrift & Vintage store, 1308 N. 3rd St. during 3rd and the Burg.
Owner of JM’s Thrift & Vintage, Jose Montano, also known as JM, said he is always excited about hosting 3rd and The Burg events in his store, but this one will be special.
"This will be our fifth event for 3rd and The Burg but this time we are joining forces with Showcase, one of my favorite community newspapers, to help provide artists with the community connections they yearn," JM said. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided and attendees can meet up and coming artists. "I think it will be a nice break from the same ole, same ole," JM said.
JM also said he and Stacy Phillips, fashion production stylist for QVC, will be available to showcase their designing abilities and possibly give attendees a sneak peak at their new vintage t-shirt line which may be coming out in spring of 2012.
Although JM and Phillips are working on their t-shirt line, clothes are not the only things they design. JM two degrees in design and uses these skills and knowledge daily. . One of the key factors that makes JM’s Thrift & Vintage different than many others, is the way his store is styled rather than stocked. Although it is a thrift and vintage store, there is a certain element of style, decor, and theme that is present throughout the store.
In addition, to his retails services, JM’s offers several services such as space planning, event coordination and preparation, estate appraisals. Both he and Phillips have designed sets and styled venues for high profile companies and figures including Chris Franklin from the famous Harlem Globetrotters.
Phillips has been the fashion stylist for QVC for the past three years. In this role, she has served as the lead stylist for the Isaac Mizrahi brand and worked on the Mercedes Benz Spring and Fall Fashion week. "I know Stacy has a lot to bring to the table. I am excited about working with her in our upcoming projects," JM said.
JM is also helping to other local artists develop and promote their projects, and he is using his partnership with Showcase for the upcoming 3rd and the Burg to do so.
"This is not just about entertainment but community and we all need to help each other. No one arrives on the road called success without some direction and help," JM said. "I wanted to use this opportunity to highlight old and new artists to help them meet the decision makers in their industry. It is all about making community connections."
One of the artists that will be featured during the event is Stacie Collins. Collins has been a painter and professional photographer for a decade and said she looks forward to sharing her work with the community during 3rd and the Burg. Collins said she thrives of off the positive energy from people and she knows there will be a lot of people at the show.
"I am glad JM thought enough of me to feature my work in his store during this 3rd and the Burg. I admire the selfless way he looks out for others and helps to provide them with opportunities to highlight their creative work to the community. Talk about a community connection," Collins said. "I believe God brought him into my life for a reason," she added.
JM also said this event will not only serve as a great opportunity for artists in the capitol region to network but it will also provide a way for Harrisburg residents to connect with directors at Showcase, one of Central Pa’s most popular community newspapers. "Everyone needs to form a relationship with their local community paper, and get involved in the community," JM said.
